With Nikki Bella dealing with an ankle injury in the lead to WrestleMania 42, there's now somewhat of an update on the WWE Hall of Famer's status with the Showcase of the Immortals now less than a week away.

Per the Wrestling Observer's Dave Meltzer, Bella's status is said to be "too close to call" right now.

As it stands, Nikki is due to team with her sister Brie to challenge for Nia Jax and Lash Legend's WWE Women's Tag Team Titles in a fatal four-way bout also featuring Bayley and Lyra Valkyria, and Charlotte Flair and Alexa Bliss. However, the injury to Nikki means that a certain other match may or may not take place at WrestleMania 42.

While WWE programming has leaned into an IYO SKY vs. Asuka match happening soon, the Nikki Bella situation is pivotal to when that match happens. The belief is that should Nikki be cleared for WrestleMania 42, that would allow SKY and Asuka to likewise tangle at 'Mania. Should Nikki be ruled out of the Granddaddy of Them All, though, there's a chance that Asuka and Kairi Sane could be added to the Women's Tag Titles bout, pushing that IYO and Asuka match down the line, potentially for Backlash next month.

Again, with WrestleMania 42 now only a matter of days away, one would have to realistically expect IYO SKY vs. Asuka to be announced for WrestleMania on tonight's Raw if we are getting that contest this weekend. If nothing is announced on Raw later today, that would seem to indicate that Nikki Bella is not cleared, and Asuka and Kairi Sane will instead be in tag team action at 'Mania.
