The inevitable has finally arrived for the Lads.

It was good while it lasted (well, not really, but there we go), but the end has finally arrived for the beleaguered group of non-American wrestlers known as the League of Nations. Alberto Del Rio pretty much confirmed the death of the League in an interview in Spain last week, and reports coming out of this week's SmackDown tapings carefully placed the final nail in that particular coffin.

Del Rio, Sheamus and Rusev take on Sami Zayn, Cesaro and WWE United States Champion Kalisto on the blue brand this week, and in doing so they pick up their final loss as a stable. The end comes in the shape of Del Rio and Rusev abandoning Sheamus at ringside, in much the same way the WWE Universe did a while ago.

This may very well be the least surprising news of the week, but it still comes with a healthy amount of 'what could have been' type thoughts. What could have been a strong faction became utterly toothless very quickly, and the experiment hasn't achieved a single thing for any of the men involved.

What next for the Lads? Del Rio has talked of wanting to get back into the WWE World Championship picture, and happenings on RAW suggest that Rusev and Lana will go back to being an on-screen duo once again. Sheamus? Who knows. Regardless, all three have a lot to offer WWE, so here's hoping they all land on their feet.

Pour one out for the lads.
