Lilian Garcia Interview: "Chasing Glory", Transition Into Podcasting, Returning To WWE & More

How important do you think it is to have your podcast on video as opposed to just audio?

Garcia: It's wild you're bringing that up because I'm actually a keynote speaker for a podcast movement and I'm going to be talking about that because I think that everyone's going to start feeling the pressure that all their shows have to be on video and I don't think that is the answer. I think some podcasts definitely belong on video and some belong on audio. I don't want everyone to start thinking their podcast has to be on video.

With mine, I've been in front of the camera for so many years. I'm comfortable in front of the camera, my guests are comfortable in front of the camera, it just made sense. But for some podcasters out there who are basically starting, I think they're already nervous just starting the audio portion and I think that adding the video sometimes doesn't add something special. You have to look at which message you're really trying to get across. If it's a mystery podcast, there's nothing better than listening to it and creating your own images. That's why I say video isn't always the answer. You really have to look at what kind of podcast you want to put out there.

You joined the Professional Fighters League as its main announcer inside the cage last year. How has that gig been going for you and how has the pandemic affected it?

Garcia: It affected it in that the whole PFL season was canceled, so I wasn't able to be in the cage. It was pretty cool that I pitched this idea to do in-depth stories of the fighters that are going to be stepping in the cage for the first time in 2021 for PFL. It turned into a show called “Prep Point” where I got to interview them short-form style, not “Chasing Glory” style, and we actually added this component called The Hot Seat Questions.

On the “Chasing Glory” side, we'll be launching every Thursday a speed round, where we do those rapid-fire questions. I love to get the reaction of people with what their answers to questions are out of the blue. With the PFL, I will be back in the cage next year. It got announced [two weeks ago], so the 2021 season starts in April. It's just really exciting to see that the fighters are going to be given a chance to change their lives and win a million dollars.
