Looking Back On The WCW / NJPW Event In North Korea: 25 Years Later
Muhammad Ali Was Cracking Jokes
Boxing superstar Muhammad Ali was also convinced to come along for the ride. Inoki had previously worked with Ali in their controversial boxing match, years earlier. Bischoff also had somewhat of a professional relationship with 'The Greatest'.
It's understandable that the mood was tense as the talent set off from Japan to Pyongyang. Apparently, this is where Ali stepped up and tried lighten the vibe aboard the plane. He was said to have been cracking jokes and telling stories to the wrestlers. The boxer also told Road Warrior Hawk to continuously cut promos on him resulting in laughs from everyone on board.
Sadly this wouldn't last long as the plane would soon touchdown leading to a drop in the mood. Bischoff referred to the landing as like "landing on Mars".
