Macho Man Randy Savage's 10 Best Matches Ever

4. Vs. Jerry Lawler (Mid-South Coliseum, 6/3/85)

Despite he and his family's reputation at one time as blacklisted "outlaws" in the business, any enterprising promoter would've been out of his mind to not want Savage on his roster. By the spring of 1985, Savage was well within WWE's crosshairs, and their national expansion viewed him as a pill worth consuming.

Savage's last hurrah before the jump was putting Jerry Lawler over in a no-disqualification loser-leaves match, one appropriately wild for a Tennessee crowd that loves its heroes and loathes its villains. Savage alternates between cowardly and caustic, playing ultimate opportunist in an attempt to convince all of Memphis that their hometown boy is done for.

The beauty of the match is the false finish, in which the referee tries to stop the match due to Lawler bleeding into his own eyes. Before the inevitable riot could take place, Lawler demands a restart, refusing to lose that way. Sure enough, a supercharged Lawler then murders Savage, piledriving him out of the territory and into WWE's graces.
