Macho Man Randy Savage's 10 Best Matches Ever
5. Vs. Hulk Hogan (WrestleMania V)
As a babyface champion in Hulk's steed-turned-heel champion that abhorred Hogan, Savage drew big money, and was far from a flop in Hogan's championship exodus. But the plan was always for Hulk to get the belt back, and after a year on top, Savage would be doing the honors in the same building he'd initially won the strap.
The match was responsible for WWE doing 767,000 pay-per-view buys, a then-record number that the company would not top for a full decade. Savage's paranoia and accusations toward now-former friend Hogan made for perhaps the most intensely-personal main event in WWE history, and the brilliantly-done heel turn on The Main Event could only make the showdown more enticing.
While it may not have been as frenzied as other Macho/Hulk battles, the deliberate pacing only added to the tension. Savage was the perfect aggressor, nominally the same man who valiantly defended the gold for a year, only to betray his bravery whenever he hid behind Miss Elizabeth. The fact that Savage worked through a staph infection in his right elbow only adds to the due respect.
