Top AEW name is forced to miss this weekend's action.

While he's not been seen on TV since having a backstage altercation with Sammy Guevara last month, AEW's Andrade El Idolo has posted a video (via RGR Lucha Libre's Facebook page) showing himself in a hospital bed.

The former NXT Champion didn't elaborate on why he was in hospital, though he did note how he will reveal more information at a later date.

El Idolo was set to face Dralistico at RGR's Cudahy, California show this coming Sunday. In his place, it will be fellow AEW talent Rey Fenix stepping up to face Dralistico.

As Andrade explained in the video (as translated by Fightful):

"Greetings to all my friends in Los Angeles. I would have loved to meet you all this Sunday, but I had an issue to attend. I will be giving more details about it as a later date. If it had been up to me, I would have loved to be there with you all. I hope to see you all again in Los Angeles, and I apologise."

The former La Sombra most recently wrestled for AEW at All Out at the start of September. There, he came up short as one of the competitors in the Casino Ladder Match that was ultimately won by MJF.

Andrade was sent home from the 5 October episode of Dynamite after a backstage incident with Sammy Guevara. Of course, this came on the back of the two exchanging barbs on Twitter in the days leading up to that Dynamite offering.

Prior to the aforementioned multi-man All Out contest, Andrade last competed on AEW programming on the 18 August edition of Dynamite, where he, Rush and Dragon Lee came up short against Kenny Omega and the Young Bucks in the tournament to crown the company's first ever Trios Champions.

Andrade El Idolo In AEW

It's been somewhat of a stop-start run for Andrade El Idolo in AEW. Upon arriving in the promotion - with Vickie Guerrero in tow as his manager - on the 4 June 2021 AEW Dynamite, Andrade has flitted between being a regular part of AEW programming, to being absent from TV for weeks, sometimes months at a time.

To highlight how sporadic El Idolo's AEW tenure has been so far, he's had just 27 matches in the company since arriving nearly 18 months ago. Of those 27 bouts, only 17 have actually been on TV or PPV, and only 9 of those TV or PPV contests have been singles bouts.

While many fans have questioned the use - or lack thereof - of Andrade in AEW, this has been mixed in with rumours and speculation that the talent himself is unhappy in the company and may have previously requested his release. In fact, some have even suggested that the backstage altercation with Sammy Guevara may have merely happened as a way to force Tony Khan's hand into releasing the La Faccion Ingobernable man.
