Mr. Fuji: His 8 Most Legendary Ribs
4. Dog Food
There are many variations on this famous rib, the circumstances and participants altering dependent upon who you ask. One element all versions of the story share is that it's utterly vile.
Probably the best source for the tale is Fuji himself, who vaguely remembered the trick was pulled on Skandor Akbar and Billy White Wolfe. After the pair tucked into marinated 'chicken', cooked "teriyaki style" by Fuji, the dastardly manager pulled out a dog's head from his bag, revealing it to be the wrestlers' lunch.
The severed head was understandably emetic to the guys, who began violently puking. George 'the Animal' Steele - no stranger to chewing on unusual meals - tells a similar story, only his version paints the prank as revenge for a fellow wrestler stealing Fuji's furniture from his Hawaii lock-up. "I assumed the meal was properly salted," joked Steele, "as Mr. Fuji was famous for throwing salt into people's faces."
According to Al Snow, the infamous tale of canine cuisine was the basis for the Pepper angle during which The Big Boss Man fed Snow's dog to him. Even if Fuji gave nothing else back to the industry, he gave us that. Cheers.
