With it having been confirmed by Tony Khan that William Regal is departing AEW for WWE, there now comes a further update on Regal's new role with the market leader.

As per Mike Johnson at PWInsider.com, His Lordship will take up a Vice President position when he returns to WWE at the turn of the year. It's not known at this stage what his exact title will be, but a WWE source told Johnson that Regal will be in a VP role when he lands back in the company.

It was PWInsider who previously reported that Regal will start back up with WWE in the first week of January, and this latest report again reiterates that this will be the case.

Regal had been with AEW since March 2022, with the two-time Intercontinental Champion debuting at the Revolution PPV following Bryan Danielson's battle with Jon Moxley. Regal, Danielson and Moxley soon formed the Blackpool Combat Club, which has since seen Wheeler Yuta and Claudio Castagnoli join its ranks.

As detailed by Tony Khan last week, the Brit approached the AEW President in October about not taking up the option to renew his contract at the start of 2023. With a main reason for this being that Regal wanted to work with his son Bailey - better known as NXT's Charlie Dempsey - Khan decided to grant the 54-year-old's wish.

In terms of AEW programming, William Regal was written off TV earlier this month after MJF hit him in the back of the head with a brass knuckles shot. Prior to that, Regal had helped the Salt of the Earth topple Jon Moxley for the AEW World Championship at Full Gear.
