New Women's And Tag Team Titles Unveiled On WWE Smackdown Live
They're blue!
Tuesday afternoon, Smackdown General Manager Daniel Bryan tweeted that the evening's show would see him and Commissioner Shane McMahon introduce two new championships to the blue brand. Sure enough, at the beginning of the show, Bryan and McMahon came to the ring, where the Smackdown Women's Championship and the Smackdown Tag Team Championships were waiting on podiums.
Also present in the ring were the grapplers who will be involved in the competition to declare the inaugural champions - Becky Lynch, Nikki Bella, Natalya, Carmella, Alexa Bliss, and Naomi were representing the women's division, while American Alpha, The Usos, The Hype Bros, The Ascension, The Vaudevillains, and Breezango constituted the tag team ranks. The former six will battle in a six-pack challenge for the title at Backlash, while the teams (plus two more) will face off in a tournament concluding at the blue brand's first solo PPV.
From a design standpoint, the titles are identical to their Raw counterparts - albeit with a twist. The Women's Championship has the same WWE logo and white strap, but the center plate has a blue background rather than a red one. As for the Tag Team Titles, the plates are identical to Raw's helmet design, but the straps are solid blue.
