NJPW G1 Climax 30: Every Participant's Chance Of Winning Ranked From Worst To Best
8. Hirooki Goto
Admittedly, having Goto this high on the list is a real "keep the hope alive" scenario but he has a legitimate chance. He might not have won the IWGP Heavyweight Championship so far in his career, but he's a former G1 winner, has a great history with Tetsuya Naito and a natural arc for the world title at Wrestle Kingdom. In addition to this, he's beloved by fans and can convincingly defeat just about any opponent with his brutal offence.
Goto doesn't have time on his side and it could be said that the chance for him to be world champion has passed, but his high profile match at Wrestle Kingdom 14 against KENTA and his long tenure in the company means he can't be ruled out as a contender.
It doesn't feel like this is his year from the surface, but he would receive adoration from the crowd if he won his first G1 in 12 years here. Regardless of winning or losing, Goto will excel in this year's tournament like he always does. Hopefully he'll get to hold that IWGP Heavyweight Championship for himself sometime in the future.
