NJPW G1 Climax 30: Every Participant's Chance Of Winning Ranked From Worst To Best

1. Kota Ibushi

Kota Ibushi
NJPW

The most likely winner of this year's G1 Climax is last year's winner Kota Ibushi.

Now, his victory in 2019 could mean that he is out of consideration but his victory was overshadowed by the desperation for NaitoTwoBelts and his title match was therefore unsuccessful. The planned coronation of the newly contracted Ibushi had to be postponed and getting revenge on Naito for taking away his moment the year before is a great narrative hook to sell the event on.

Ibushi and Naito are once in a lifetime opponents with each other, with all of their matches being incredible and their Dominion match being the best of 2019. Considering the changes in NJPW that have happened since they've last fought, it makes sense for Kota to be the person to challenge him in the main event.

In addition, his run with Hiroshi Tanahashi as tag team champions this year could lead into a potentially emotional final, and the feud's context could easily have Kota lean into his psychotic heelish behaviours that he's so good at. Ibushi feels right for this year's winner and is the most likely man to pick up that trophy again.
