NJPW G1 Climax 30: Every Participant's Chance Of Winning Ranked From Worst To Best
16. Will Ospreay
Will Ospreay is over in Japan without a doubt. He's a popular babyface with the Japanese crowds, beloved by many Westerners who give him frequent five star accolades and is viewed by many as the company’s next Kenny Omega, a gaijin who can achieve international acclaim and draw attention to the promotion. He seems to have it all as a potential winner after his 2019 with the company.
But Ospreay is the RevPro champion, a belt that is defended in New Japan Pro Wrestling. Since Naito already has two belts and the RevPro title won't be unified with New Japan's top titles anytime soon, it's unlikely that Ospreay will pull out a G1 victory here. His lack of any narrative history with Naito and the lack of a demanding story for the Tokyo Dome makes it more definitive.
In addition, he has to rebuild himself after months of inactivity due to being stuck in the UK during the pandemic. But most importantly, has went through major controversy regarding the accusations against him regarding his involvement in blacklisting of a sexual assault victim in the British wrestling scene. All of this cements that Ospreay shouldn’t and won’t win the G1.
