NOBODY Should Acknowledge Roman Reigns Because...

Roman Reigns Jey Uso
WWE

With a heel unit growing behind him - Jimmy eventually fell in line after a frustratingly dropped thread about him trying to save Jey’s broken soul following his return - Roman started pretending to walk the walk while talking the talk louder than ever.

The two sides of the story needed each other. The more Roman spoke of his actions feeding the family, the more the untruths motivated said family to help him win by any means. The more he won, the more his words were validated. The big lie got so loud that enough people believed it. The mythology grew, as did Roman's empire even if it was made of sand.

Reddit user Tom Gerrity brilliantly compiled the stats on this, and while the whole tabulated reign is worth your time, the headlines expose the fraudulent undercurrent running underneath The Bloodline and emphasise exactly why this increasingly desperate coward has spent three years positioning himself as the total opposite.

Across 28 title defences, 'The Tribal Chief' has won just eight of them clean. He's a heel, so there's no quibbles about the real reasons why his history is so chequered. But The Usos, Solo Sikoa and Sami Zayn went too long not asking the right kayfabe questions, and that's possibly because they were too busy on run-in duties. Edge (twice), Daniel Bryan (twice), Drew McIntyre (twice), Brock Lesnar (thrice), and Kevin Owens (thrice) all had to deal with interference from one or more of Roman's entourage. Finn Balor's Demon fell off some broken ropes like a total clown, but he'd had to bat back The Usos before WWE's slapdash ring crew were handed the blame. All of those same men had 'The Head Of The Table' beat at various points too, further highlighting how much the Champion needs The Bloodline a lot more than they've ever needed him.

After accepting Sami Zayn's challenge for Elimination Chamber, Roman threatened to decimate Sami in front his wife, his child, and his mother. Meanwhile on Raw, he despatched Paul Heyman to plant Rhodes lore with Cody ahead of their own planned showdown. As his reign faces the most jeopardy, he is leaning hard on the importance of family, and it's not hard to see why. Despite his self-aggrandising, he is nothing without his.
