Dominik Mysterio claps back at CM Punk for his comments during WWE Unreal hype.
Master of mirth Dominik Mysterio has fired back at one CM Punk for the Punker's joke about his onscreen relationship with Rhea Ripley. During promotions for the new WWE Unreal documentary series on Netflix, Punk quipped that "nothing exposes the business more than trying to convince people that Dom and Rhea were in an actual relationship".
The reigning Intercontinental Champ has clapped back.
During an interview with The TWC Show, 'Dirty Dom' criticised Punk's short lived MMA career by saying: "Actually, nothing exposed the business more than trying to go to UFC and then getting your ass kicked and then coming back to wrestling". The TWC Show's hosts seemed to really enjoy that one - they showered Mysterio with praise for going after one of WWE's biggest stars so viciously.
Of course, there's more than a bit of tongue in cheek about Dominik's words. He knows exactly what he's doing here, and there's every chance both he and Punk will share a laugh about all of this behind the scenes at Raw when they see one another.
That idea was furthered by Dom then going in heavy on Punk's heartbreaking World Heavyweight Championship ordeal at SummerSlam. There, after beating Gunther to win the strap, CM looked on in horror as old rival Seth Rollins revealed that his injury was fake. Rollins then cashed in his Money In The Bank briefcase to win the belt and leave Punk's weekend in tatters.
Mysterio called that his "favourite moment of the weekend" (other than retaining his IC Title vs. AJ Styles on the Sunday), and said Seth is something of a "padrino" to him (a godfather/mentor) behind the curtain these days.
It's worth listening to Dominik's interview as a whole. The guy has grown in confidence since striking out on his own and turning heel a few years back. He's entertaining on the mic, and this verbal CM Punk takedown proves it.
