NWO Twenty Years Later: Where Are They Now?

19. Disco Inferno

In 1996, the nWo was the coolest thing in wrestling, instigated by two slick-as-a-snake 'outsiders' to the promotion, and headed by a legendary wrestler making a heel turn for the first time since he became the babyface of all babyfaces. Just one year later, Glenn Gilbertti's Saturday Night Fever-inspired Disco Inferno character was allied with the faction's red and black Wolfpac splinter group. It was less cool.

It wasn't that the Inferno gimmick was bad, just that its light relief stylings had no place in what was supposed to the industry's hottest heel stable.

Well, actually, the gimmick was bad, but Gilbertti played it with such commitment that he ensured a persona with little chance of succeeding somehow managed to do so.

Gilbertti became accustomed to beating the odds, and after winding down his in-ring career, swapped the jumpsuits for card suits as a hobbyist poker player.

In fact, his interest in the card game went a step further; in 2007, Gilbertti was arrested when it was discovered he was running an illegal gambling racket from his basement - allegedly one with a $15,000 cover charge.

The sting didn't disrupt Disco's passion for high-stakes thrills, as he now works full time at Las Vegas' Sapphire Gentleman's Club, donning his worn flares now and again for the occasional appearance in Sin City's independent grappling groups.

Benjamin was born in 1987, and is still not dead. He variously enjoys classical music, old-school adventure games (they're not dead), and walks on the beach (albeit short - asthma, you know). He's currently trying to compile a comprehensive history of video game music, yet denies accusations that he purposefully targets niche audiences. He's often wrong about these things.
