For the first time in a whopping 6 years, Mickie James made her return to the WWE spotlight at NXT TakeOver: Toronto. A nice opponent for reigning NXT Women's Champion Asuka, James is a veteran who can always be relied upon to pop up for a decent match. This was no exception.

Far from being one of the best female bouts in NXT history, James vs. Asuka was nonetheless solid. Besides, there are those who likely weren't fortunate to see Mickie's last stint in the company. An NXT reprise gives those younger fans the opportunity to see what she's all about, without having to source her on the independent scene.

That's the real beauty of NXT, performers can dip in and dive out without repercussion from time to time. Mickie James is indicative of that idea, she was there to put Asuka over and then walk into the sunset with her head held high.

Such harmless booking can never be criticised, it's smart. Dropping by submission to the champ, Mickie didn't lose any face in the process either. It was awesome to see her back in the mix.
