NXT UK TakeOver Blackpool II: 5 Ups And 3 Downs
3. Ladder Matches Are Just Good, Full Stop
First things first, every single spot that we saw in the 4-way ladder match for the NXT UK Tag Team Championship has been done before. In fact, they've been done about a million times before. They were being done when the Hardyz, Dudleyz and Edge & Christian were pioneering 20 years ago, and they're being done at every single Indie show brave enough to feature them.
The consensus on social media seemed to be that by simply playing all the greatest hits this match managed to underwhelm in the extreme but, dear friends, I am here to tell you to Get A Grip. Ladder matches, as predictable and cliche as they may have become, are brilliant. Grown men throw themselves of 10, 15 and 20ft tall metal structures, through both wood and each other's bodies. Get A F****** Grip.
It didn't matter that you had no real interest in who won this match, and it didn't matter that the only over team (James Drake and UK wrestling's most underutilized asset Zack Gibson) are also the only team consistently presented as heels, it was a ladder match. If you've got a title picture that makes no sense, then it is Good, Actually to throw everyone into a match that doesn't either.
