WrestleMania 32 was shaping up to be a flaming hot mess.

Top stars like John Cena, Randy Orton, and Seth Rollins were out with injury and WWE had a 100,000 seat arena to fill and were hell bent on doing this with Roman Reigns vs. Triple H.

This was Roman before he was cool, by the way.

Things were looking dire until the night after Fastlane, when Shane "Sweatball" McMahon made his first WWE appearance in seven years. Shane challenged his father for the rights to Monday Night Raw and Vince agreed to hand them over to his estranged son, providing that he could beat The Undertaker at WrestleMania.

Despite the quality of the in-ring work being in question, fans were intrigued at the prospect of Shane-O-Mac stepping inside Hell in a Cell with The Phenom.

And this isn't speculation, because this is the match that saved the biggest WrestleMania of all time.

According to Dave Meltzer, this match being announced for the show led to a spike in ticket sales and helped the show become the most attended WWE event in history.

Not bad for two men over 45.
