One MIND-BLOWING Secret From Every Year Of WWE History
29. 1996 - The House Show Match From Hell
In 1996, roster depth was poor.
The WWF was still reaping what it had sown by destroying the territory system, and great in-ring wrestling wasn’t yet the mandatory selling point it was today. There were more bad matches than good matches on WWF television at the time, and this was especially pronounced on the house show loop. On June 27, the WWF rocked up in Louisville, Kentucky. Well, not really; as a result of a major flight delay, very few wrestlers turned up on time. Consequently, of all wrestlers, Aldo Montoya and Duke ‘the Dumpster’ Droese were marched out to the ring and had to stall for a full 45 minutes. That’s the length of the first Kazuchika Okada Vs. Kenny Omega match!
Jesus Christ!
They actually worked two matches, since they obviously weren’t equipped to go that long; Duke turned heel in the first match and went over, and Aldo got his revenge in the second. Mercifully, before they had to go the full hour, the rest of the crew turned up. God, can you imagine a worse match?
Other than Kane going 10 minutes without a stip?
