One MIND-BLOWING Secret From Every Year Of WWE History

26. 1999 - Gorilla Monsoon Still Did Commentary

WWE's Deepest Secrets Vince McMahon

Time used to pass by a lot differently in pro wrestling.

1995 looks radically different to 1997 where, for example, WWE television between 2008 and 2021 is a samey and uninspiring mess of LED, big screens, and the exact same Miz matches. What happened is that, until very recently, WWE had zero impetus to change. You were served slop and you had to like it for too long.

As a result of this dreary phenomenon, certain events that unfolded in the past feel like utterly bizarre matrix glitches. King Mabel rocking up to wrestle Ken Shamrock in 1998 was strange even then. 1995 was branded as a different era, but actually felt like one.

In another hiccup of the continuum, the beloved voice of the Golden Era, Gorilla Monsoon, still performed sporadic commentary duties on international broadcasts as late as 1999: the year of his passing. He was once asked his thoughts on Mr. McMahon’s chances of winning that year’s Royal Rumble. He was still referred to as the ‘President’. He buried Vince as an arrogant idiot in over his head.

This was the equivalent of Michael Cole broadcasting on a…2014 episode of Raw.
