One WWE Match You MUST Watch From Every Year 1984-2024

23. 2001 - Team WWF Vs Team Alliance, Survivor Series

The WCW/ECW Invasion of WWE ending with another battle between Stone Cold Steve Austin and The Rock was yet more evidence that the company had yet again blasted wide from under the bar when it came to the biggest money-drawing story they'd ever had, and the match is paradoxically a must-see as a result.

Of the 10 men involved, only two could earnestly be considered outsiders, and by that time both Booker T and Rob Van Dam had wrestled so much on weekly television that they felt as much a part of the furniture as the swinging Backlash pincers. Austin and Kurt Angle were the last two men on the heel side, having feuded all year, whilst Rock and Chris Jericho were the final babyfaces despite also having problems co-existing. Sound familiar? Sound painfully, exhaustingly familiar?

If WrestleMania X-Seven was the Attitude Era's finale, this was at least prologue of sorts. A foreshadowing of how the monopoly era would be more misses than hits, but with an in-ring quality stood the chance of reaching hitherto unseen new heights.
