It appears that Pat McAfee's time with WWE might be done, with the man himself noting that the pro wrestling business has "passed me by."
This came as McAfee was responding to a fan on Instagram, adding the "never say never" caveat, but saying that a WWE return "does not feel like it is something that's supposed to happen," that the business "has kind of passed me by a little," and that "the biz is in a good spot without me."
The former Indianapolis Colts star said that he grew up "loving" pro wrestling, that it was a "dream" to work in wrestling, he felt "honoured" to work with Michael Cole, who Pat again described as "the G.O.A.T.," and that he'll continue to watch as a fan.

Pat McAfee stepped back from his role as a WWE commentator in June 2025, largely due to his crazy schedule leading to burnout and exhaustion. However, McAfee did make a one-off return at Wrestlepalooza in September, which took place at Indianapolis' Gainbridge Fieldhouse.
Of course, Pat has also wrestled sporadically during his time with WWE, the most recent match being a loss to Gunther at Backlash last May. McAfee's first WWE bout saw him come up short against Adam Cole back at NXT TakeOver XXX back in 2020, though likely his most notable match was an impromptu loss to Vince McMahon at WrestleMania 38 - a match that stands as the final contest of McMahon's career.

Away from WWE, Pat McAfee hosts his daily ESPN show - simply titled The Pat McAfee Show - and he's also a part of College GameDay when college football is in season.
