12. Backlash - Randy Orton Vs Luke Harper

Backlash returns to the Smackdown brand again this year, albeit this time in May, as opposed to last year’s post-Summerslam slot. Hot-ish off the heels of WrestleMania, the blue brand will probably have a lot of loose ends to tie up, at least in terms of the show’s authority figures. With his and Brie’s baby due in the coming weeks, it’s likely that Daniel Bryan will take some leave in order to focus on family matters, leaving Shane McMahon in charge as Smackdown’s de facto leader.

Shane will need to deal with the ramifications of his match with AJ Styles (which we’re assuming/praying AJ has won), but also with the fallout of Bray Wyatt vs Randy Orton. As disappointing as it might seem, they’re probably going to give the win to Randy Orton, potentially after some interference from Luke Harper and a returning Erick Rowan.

This leaves the Wyatt Family in total disrepair. Wyatt loses his rematch on an episode of Smackdown, but is then included in a Wyatt Family triple threat to determine a new number one contender. Luke Harper is declared the winner, and goes on to face Orton in the main event at Backlash. In a repeat of their surprisingly good match from Elimination Chamber, Harper gets a chance for revenge against the man who destroyed his family.
