11. Extreme Rules - Seth Rollins Vs Samoa Joe
Roman loses against Brock, which probably goes down rather well with a large section of WWE’s audience. Heyman is once again ecstatic, and sets up an invitational tournament in the lead up to Extreme Rules:
“Anyone with the stones to take part in the tournament can at least be proud of their courage in the face of adversity, even though they’ll end up leaving on the last bus back from Suplex City once Extreme Rules is over.”
The tournament lasts several weeks, with the semi-finals taking place at Extreme Rules, and the final taking place in the main event. At this point, Triple H is making a concerted effort to get ‘his guys’ into the tournament final. Samoa Joe ploughs through all the competition, besting Sami Zayn in the semis, while Kevin Owens loses to Finn Balor early on in an upset victory. The final winds up being Seth Rollins vs Samoa Joe in an Extreme Rules match, an incredibly heated affair, given their past confrontations. Joe wins and tries to injure Seth again, but before he gets the job done, several non-Triple H-affiliated tournament entrants come down to make the save.
