5. No Mercy - The Miz Vs AJ Styles

The Miz was Smackdown’s hottest star at last year’s No Mercy event, and was heavily featured on the PPV’s branding as a result. The same could arguably happen again this year, as Miz gets pushed further up the card and into the WWE Championship picture. To trade Miz to RAW after such a great year would be a mistake, so let’s say The Miz stays with the blue brand, at least for another year.

Having had his match with Randy Orton upstaged thanks to AJ’s cash in, Miz is furious at AJ for stealing his thunder. This sparks off a bitter feud between the two men – with Miz acting as the dirty, underhanded heel, and AJ taking on the role of a more seasoned, legitimate fighter. If done right, it’s the sort of rivalry that could go down a treat with both live audiences and viewers at home. AJ is a master technician, Miz is a brilliant storyteller, and both men were involved in two of WWE’s best main roster feuds last year.

In order to stop Maryse from interfering, Daniel Bryan bans her from ringside during AJ Styles vs The Miz at No Mercy. When Miz ultimately loses, he starts acting out, refusing to wrestle matches and attacking other wrestlers until he gets his rematch, all because Bryan “caught him unawares.”
