Predicting WWE WrestleMania 39 Cards 1 Year Out
1. Cody Rhodes Vs Brock Lesnar
Cody’s WrestleMania return was a triumph but Rhodes, or at least WWE’s booking of him, will remain divisive. Some fans will claim he is being buried if he isn’t immediately strapped up with a World title at the next “premium live event.” Others are already fuming that an AEW interloper was allowed to go over company stalwart Seth Rollins.
That said, WWE seem to be positioning Rhodes as a top babyface and given the crowd reaction at ‘Mania and Raw (plus the total sell out of “American Nightmare” T-shirts in Dallas last weekend) most fans seem receptive to it. Having completely failed over nearly two years to build up a babyface hero to take down “The Tribal Chief”, WWE have had one fall in their laps here. They need to capitalise on it by realising Cody’s boyhood dream.
But assuming Cody enters ‘Mania as WWE’s top champion, he will need a suitable opponent. “Cowboy” Brock Lesnar may have fallen short on Sunday night in an underwhelming match, but it’ll take more than that to dent “The Beast’s” aura. He’s a suitably dangerous threat to any title reign.
Except him to be tweaked back into his heel incarnation and reinserted as WWE’s final boss again next year.
