Rampage Review: 6 Ups & 5 Downs
4. Dwayne Johnson's Reliable Central Performance
You know what you're getting with The Rock, and he duly delivers every bit the likeable, bada** lead performance you'd expect here.
While Johnson's previous collaboration with director Brad Peyton, San Andreas, saw Johnson take too much of a backseat to all the effects-driven bombast, here the balance feels much more consistent.
Johnson commands the screen at all times and holds his own against the giant digital creations well enough, which given how frequently Johnson is clearly acting against a green screen, is no easy feat.
Whether you're tiring of Johnson's seemingly endless conveyor-belt of big-budget blockbusters that receive mixed reviews, the guy's putting in the work he needs to, and you certainly can't accuse him of sleepwalking his way through the film for an easy payday.
