One could argue that The Rock's ascension to superstardom occurred two months earlier with his first WWE Championship win at Survivor Series, while others might suggest he didn't really boom until his title match against Stone Cold at WrestleMania XV. The truth is somewhere in the middle.

Much like Stone Cold, The Rock was a bad guy that people loved to hate. His actions were that of a classic heel, but his promos were too funny and entertaining to keep fans from cheering him. But it takes more than funny to carry the WWE Championship. The Rock needed to show he had a mean streak somewhere underneath all those one-liners.

Cue the 11 brutal chair shots The Brahma Bull laid on Mick Foley's skull. That series remains one of the most spine-tingling, cringe-inducing, eye-averting stunts ever performed in or around a wrestling ring. The fact that it's still one of the most gruesome spots Foley -- a man who's had more thumbtacks in his flesh than a light post outside of a nondescript punk rock club -- is no small accolade.

This match not only turned The Rock into a bona fide heel, but it provided the fuel that would propel The Rock into his legendary rivalry with Steve Austin.
