You’re forgiven if you saw this name and said, “Who?” at the screen.

Brendan Vink was a product of the Empty Arena Era, suddenly showing up on Raw alongside Shane Thorne as a tag team to fill out a depleted roster in the early days of the pandemic. With everything shut down and many wrestlers either unable or unwilling to perform, WWE turned to several of their NXT superstars who were already at the Performance Center to help fill the programs.

Unlike some of the NXT talent who filled in, Vink & Thorne (better known today as Slapjack) actually became part of the main roster for a very brief time. They pulled off a win against Ricochet & Cedric Alexander, and then drew MVP as a manager. However, sometimes after one more match in early May, the group was sent back to NXT. While Thorne returned to Raw under a mask, Vink hasn’t competed in a single match since and has apparently changed his ring name to Tony Modra, after an Australian football player.

That’s quite a forgettable debut year, though we’ll be receptive if Vink (or Modra or whatever he’s called) gets another crack at the main roster.

Scott is a former journalist and longtime wrestling fan who was smart enough to abandon WCW during the Monday Night Wars the same time as the Radicalz. He fortunately became a fan in time for WrestleMania III and came back as a fan after a long high school hiatus before WM XIV. Monday nights in the Carlson household are reserved for viewing Raw -- for better or worse.
