Not every attempt at celebrity synergy connects with fans. Sometimes, WWE trying to cash in on a person’s fame backfires or falls completely flat.
Witness Jersey Shore’s Snooki at WrestleMania 27, where the reality show star teamed with Trish Stratus and John Morrison to battle Michele McCool, Layla and Dolph Ziggler. The match was set up when Snooki was guest host of an episode of Raw and verbally sparred with Vickie Guerrero, who set up the intergender six-person tag.
Sadly, this wasn’t even perversely entertaining, as Snooki’s one athletic contribution, a handspring back “elbow,” was pedestrian at best.
No one came out a winner here, with McCool taking the pinfall off a comically bad Snooki splash, Trish making her WrestleMania return after a five-year hiatus, and Morrison mouthing off afterward and spiraling downward until he left the company seven months later.
