The year 2005 had some really great Pay Per Views, although they were primarily on the Raw side. The Great American Bash might have been the worst Pay Per View of an otherwise stacked year. Smackdown was still reeling from losing top stars like John Cena and Kurt Angle, as well as an up-and-comer in Carlito, in three fell swoops. In return, they received Chris Benoit, Muhammad Hassasn, Christian, and Batista, all four of whom lost at the show. Their fifth pick, Randy Orton, didnt even wrestle on the Pay Per View. The big storyline of Muhammad Hassan challenging Batista for the World Title at Summerslam 2005 in Washington, D.C., was put indefinitely on hold when the Smackdown creative team stupidly made Muhammad Hassan be the head of a terrorist group when his whole gimmick had previously been that he was unjustly persecuted because he was not a terrorist. So rather than beating The Undertaker (possibly after interference by Orton), he was squashed and never seen in WWE again. At least a very good Rey Mysterio/Eddie Guerrero match salvaged this show from being one of the worst of all time, as opposed to simply just the worst July WWE Pay Per View of all time.
