Ranking Edge's WWE SummerSlam Matches From Worst To Best

8. w/ Sable vs Marc Mero & Jacqueline (1998)

This was a breakthrough match of sorts for Edge, throwing him in as a teammate of one of the company’s hottest properties in Sable, and into a feud with her then-husband which people actually wanted to see (if almost exclusively for her presence). They even reveal the rookie as Sable’s mystery partner, imbuing him with an importance not entirely reflected in his crowd response.

Unfortunately, for the majority of the match, Edge is pretty much the fourth wheel. The crowd just wants to see Sable tangle with Jacqueline, and eventually get one over on Mero. The two men wrestle reasonably well, but it’s sort of all for nought.

In the closing stretch, Edge turns on the style with a nicely executed suicide dive which the 1998 crowd laps up, before administering a spanking to Jacqueline, which has aged badly. There’s clearly something there and he’s given the rockstar entrance and exit through the crowd, but this ultimately wasn’t a platform on which he could shine.
