5. WrestleMania 36

Randy Orton Bray Wyatt Fiend
WWE

The Good: John Cena Vs Bray Wyatt may be the closest WWE ever comes to making art from what might have once been referred to as an art form. Bold, brave and brilliant and a hail mary and a half following The Fiend's demoralising loss to Goldberg. The Boneyard Match was as well-received, and/or preferred by some. Otis and Mandy Rose's kiss, Kevin Owens' insane dive onto Seth Rollins, the tremendously booked Sasha Banks/Bayley tension and Drew McIntyre's WWE Championship win were all moments of 'Mania magic on a show that seemed devoid of it going in. Splitting the event over two nights gave power to both shows and as global anxiety grew, wrestling provided an actual distraction.

The Bad: Becky Lynch Vs Shayna Baszler was a huge disappointment (though somewhat forgivable, in hindsight) and Charlotte Flair's victory over Rhea Ripley felt wrong before it was proven as such as the year went on.

The Ugly: Elias and Baron Corbin was criminally boring at nine minutes, but is forgotten thanks to Edge and Randy Orton's miserable walk-and-brawl going 36. The Rob Gronkowski Bullsh*t felt like a requirement, but only really served a satisfying purpose when footage aired of Vince McMahon showing him how to do the high platform bump. The rest of it sucked, and Gronkowski evidently and eventually agreed.
