Ranking Every AEW World Championship Match From Worst To Best
13. Jon Moxley Vs. The Butcher (Dynamite #53)
A pre-taped 30 September edition of Dynamite saw Eddie Kingston handpick Jon Moxley's latest challenger, and boy, did he go left field. Who could have predicted a World Championship match for The Butcher?
Well, our own Andy H. Murray probably, but let's not get into that.
Despite being an odd choice for such a moment, the big bruiser demonstrated just how good he could be. Yes, he was still green, but the fact Moxley was visibly hurting after just a few short minutes in the ring with him spoke volumes. Throughout his shock match with 'The Purveyor of Violence', The Butcher exemplified exactly what a brawler should be.
Obviously, there was absolutely no way he was going to lift the title that evening, but that's beside the point. The Butcher wasn't there to take the title from Mox, but rather to soften him up for a future high profile Eddie Kingston title bout. Why else would 'The War King' choose such a random, yet vicious challenger to face the champion?
As expected, Moxley retained the strap via Bulldog Choke, and advanced to that match with Kingston at Full Gear. You don't need to be told how high that ranks in here - it's self-explanatory.
