Ranking Every ECW Champion In History - From Worst To Best
5. Mike Awesome
Returning to the realm of kayfabe ring names, and here we have another star who’s record as ECW Champion justifies his assigned moniker.
Returning to the company in 1999, in what was his third stint with ECW, Awesome won the premier prize in his very first match back when he defeated Tanaka and Taz in a Three Way at Anarchy Rulz. What followed was a monster run that featured 30 successful title defences, a list far too long to publish all the details of.
Eventually it was Tanaka who’d break the streak, but as we discussed at the start of this list, Awesome would avenge that defeat less than a week later. The second reign was similarly impressive; 23 defences in 112 days, making Awesome one of the most gamely champions in the history of the company.
Eventually he departed for WCW—whilst still the ECW Champion, mind you—a move that ultimately prevents him from featuring any higher on this list.
