1. Shane Douglas

For all of his accolades and his dedication to the cause though, Sandman just misses out on top spot to the man who holds the records for both the longest and second-longest reigns as ECW World Heavyweight Champion in history.

Shane Douglas held the ECW title for 385 days between March 1994 and April 1995, before going on to smash his own record with a 406-day run between November 1997 and January 1999. That makes him the only ECW champ to have held onto the belt for an entire calendar year. For a bit of context, the WCW and WWF Championships changed hands five times apiece over the course of the same period.

Overall, Douglas’ mammoth runs with the belt around his waist put place him lightyears ahead of the competition if we look at total days as champion; his cumulative tally of 874 days with the title tow is almost twice as long as the Sandman’s 446 days.

Perhaps he’s not the first name you recall when you think of the old ECW brand, but in terms of the raw stats regarding the company’s world championship, no one holds a candle to Shane Douglas.
