Ranking Every Kenny Omega AEW Championship Defence From Worst To Best
6. Vs. Jon Moxley (AEW Revolution 2021)
Again, through no fault of its own, Kenny Omega vs. Jon Moxley was an immensely enjoyable match that suffered from one horrendous aspect of it; that ending.
Wrestled as an exploding barbed wire deathmatch, Omega and Moxley almost did the stipulation well. Their various barbed wire-related spots were well-thought-out and made sense. It was a tactical deathmatch as opposed to an indie spotfest of spamming DDTs onto the wire.
That the first big spot was Moxley Paradigm Shifting Omega onto some barbed wire boards at ringside was a testament to the brutality of this contest. They very easily could have saved something like this as the match-ending sequence, but instead, the bout's ferocity was raised in the middle of this arc. It only got more ghastly from there.
It would have been an easy top-three contender, really. Then, it ended, the ring "exploded", and Revolution's lasting impression was that of a laughing stock, despite the remainder of the night being largely successful.
This shouldn't be the conclusion to the duo's story. It needs to be remembered for its importance in ridding Mox of the horrendous Dean Ambrose vibes post-WWE; their initial program was fierce, hot, and legitimately enticing. All that was hot here were the fireworks.
Still, a solid match otherwise that did the stipulation near-proud.
