After having suffered through the "Roman wins lol" era from 2015-18, it's weird to even think that there was a time when Roman Reigns was an underdog. In 2014 however, before Reigns became everybody's least favourite Rumble entrant, he carried the WWE universe's hopes and dreams of a WrestleMania main event without Batista.

As we all know, the WWE universe would indeed be forced to see Batista eliminate Roman to win after the latter eliminated a record 12 people. That decision was one of the reasons that this match is remembered for all the wrong reasons.

After an iron man performance, first entrant CM Punk was eliminated by Kane, all while he had a concussion. Disgusted by the decision to give the rub to Batista, he no-showed the next night on RAW and wasn't seen on WWE television for almost six years. He's since cited this as being the incident that pushed him over the edge in his decision to leave the company. However, this still wasn't the biggest crime that WWE committed on that night in Pittsburgh.

There wasn't, isn't, and never will be a logical explanation for the way WWE treated Daniel Bryan when it comes to the 2014 Royal Rumble match. He was the hottest wrestler in the world, and the only right thing for WWE to do was to have him win the Royal Rumble, main event WrestleMania and become world champion.

He wasn't even in the match.

Although WWE would go on to reluctantly atone for their Bryan-related wrongdoings, this match is still a blemish on what should have been a glorious rise to the top for the Yes! man.
