The match originally featured just the champion Triple H, and The Rock, who won the 2000 Royal Rumble match. Due to the controversy surrounding the finish of the Royal Rumble match - in which it turned out Big Show had actually won it - Big Show got into the main event by defeating The Rock in a singles match. The recently 'retired' Mick Foley was also added, and the fatal four way match was set. At Wrestlemania each of the four men were accompanied by a member of the McMahon family; Mick Foley with Linda McMahon, Big Show with Shane, The Rock with Vince, and Triple H with his wife Stephanie. Big Show dominated the match from the get-go, until the other participants banded together to eliminate him. The Rock n' Sock Connection then went to work on Triple H, but Foley's desire to be champion led to him attacking The Rock, and the match becoming every man for himself again. After a somewhat hilarious failed attempt at putting The Rock through the announce table, followed by a few chairshots from Triple H, Mick Foley was eliminated by Triple H. The last two men would then just essentially brawl, until Vince McMahon screwed The Rock over by hitting him with a chair, allowing Triple H to win. At the time it was unique to see a Fatal Four way at Wrestlemania, but it there's no reason why it shouldn't have been just a one-on-one between Triple H & The Rock, which would happen to be the only time the match would stand out.
