1. Triple H Vs Cactus Jack (Royal Rumble 2000)

The defining contest that truly made Triple H a permanent fixture at WWE's top table after six months of relentless efforts to include him in the main event scene, Cactus Jack and 'The Game' topped their incredible 1997 Monday Night Raw match at the 'World's Most Famous Arena' with a gripping and bloodthirsty weapons brawl at the 2000 Royal Rumble.

Already steeped in the history of their rivalry, Madison Square Garden carried personal gravitas for both men in the build-up, famously the home of the 'Superfly' Jimmy Snuka steel cage splash that inspired Mick Foley to become a wrestler, and infamously the site of the 1996 'Curtain Call' that almost permanently derailed Triple H's WWE career.

Back in the building at the top of their game with the organisation as whole still experiencing unprecedented growth, the two worked beyond the lofty expectations with a hard-fought war that arguably nobody in the industry at that time was capable of bettering.

Triple H survived the type of beating that simply commanded the respect of WWE's most discerning crowd, whilst Foley's bravery literally in the face of the Champion's abuse carried right the way through to an improvised finish in which he took a Pedigree into hundreds of drawing pins.

Over a decade and a half old, it hasn't lost a single step on rewatch, and comfortably belongs amongst the elite battles in company history.
