The soon-to-be Face That Runs the Place also had to overcome a crowd that'd already grown a little tired of WWE's heavy-handed pushing of the all-conquering purveyor of Hustle, Loyalty, and Respect.

Yet, even with the crowd eerily foreshadowing the atmosphere The Game would experience against The Big Dog a decade later, these two gladiators would lace together a simple but effective, big-hitting dogfight, with The Game's so-close-but-yet-so-far attempt to escape the climactic STF being another under-appreciated gem.

The true MVP of this one was the Chicago faithful, though, roaring with delight for every King of Kings counter and exploding with venom every time the WWE Champion looked to be closing in on his first successful 'Mania defence.
