Two of the all-time greats at the absolute peak of their powers, one of the greatest rivalries, possibly, of all time, and a WrestleMania main event to kick it all off. This match and the subsequent rivalry was sports entertainment at its absolutely best.

The Undertaker won an Elimination Chamber match to become the number one contender for Edge’s World Heavyweight Championship at WrestleMania XXIV. The Rated R Superstar sensed the danger he was facing and went about putting together all his resources to thwart the Phenom.

Edge’s wife and then SmackDown GM Vickie Guerrero got heavily involved, as did Edge’s lackies Hawkins and Ryder. Together, they employed every tactic imaginable to get the upper hand. Such was their deviousness in the build-up, everyone was desperate to see Edge finally get his comeuppance at the Showcase of the Immortals. This was made even more intriguing by the fact that up until that point, Edge himself was also undefeated at WrestleMania.

The match then lived up to all those expectations. There were near falls, false finishes, swerves and plenty of outside shenanigans. But in the end, Undertaker just had too much for the champion to take and he tapped out to give Taker yet another WrestleMania win and arguably his greatest every championship victory
