2. Casket Match

Undoubtedly the most famous Undertaker match type of them all, the Casket Match stipulation has lasted almost as long as 'The Phenom' himself, and it's easy to see why.

A much more streamlined variation of both the Coffin and Body Bag match, the objective of this one was to put your opponent inside the casket at ringside and simply close the lid. There were no unnecessary pinfalls getting in the way of the overall victory, no gimmicky or time-consuming contrivances and no faffing around... just the lid of the casket coming down on your opponent. And it really does go without saying that it made for a much more enjoyable concept.

it really was third time lucky for WWE as the company found something that complemented almost all iterations of 'Taker's persona, and the Casket Match has outlasted almost all of their other gimmicky affairs - following The Undertaker throughout his entire career and occasionally even lending itself to other feuds.

Yes, you could argue that the gimmick had a tendency to overshadow the match quality - as it resulted in a ton of repetitive 'Deadman takes on limited giant' bouts - but if you really think about it, it actually enhanced collisions that were never going to be classics in the first place. And besides, it's not like it's incapable of producing classics - it did give us the epic between The Undertaker and Shawn Michaels at the 1998 Royal Rumble.
