Perhaps, this title change kick-started the downfall of the Universal Championship as - for 18 months - the members of the part-time wrestling club ruled RAW. The Creative team had initially planned for Chris Jericho to win the most prestigious championship of the flagship show at WrestleMania 33. Unfortunately, some last-minute changes led to the cancellation of that plan as Vince McMahon inserted Goldberg into the main event scene.

'The Icon' destroyed 'The Prizefighter' in a matter of a few seconds to turn Owens' 188-day reign into a joke. While the Universal Championship bout at WrestleMania featured a clash between the new champ and Brock Lesnar, the two Canadian wrestlers fought in a consolatory United States title match at the 'Showcase of Immortals'. Just like his second reign, the Hall of Famer's first run as the top champion of the Red brand was a brief one.

'The Beast Incarnate' overcame a challenge from him at the 'Show of Shows' and ended the legend's 27-day stay at the helm.
