Bret and Owen Hart hopefully enjoyed the hour or so in which they thought 1994's match of the year honours were already locked up after their dynamite opener in front of the company's most ardent fanbase.

They were arguably undone by Shawn Michaels and Razor Ramon's legendary Ladder Match, but the quality of both matches spoke to the overwhelming brilliance on display.

Madison Square Garden still had the prestige the company itself badly lacked at the time, with most wrestlers thankfully working up to the pressure. Dave Meltzer called it the best WWE pay-per-view ever at the time, and he was bang on. Only Michaels and Ramon also took home the fabled five stars. That made approximately three more than what ended up appearing on this curious effort.
