10. 2003 – Goldberg Vs. The Rock
Next we have another match that was made more in the hope of
creating a spectacle than a quality wrestling clinic.
Here, the appeal lay in the fact that this would be Goldberg’s first-ever match in the WWE—a scenario we thought we might never end up seeing. However, it didn’t quite go perfectly to plan. Having been unanimously cheered for much of his WCW run, at Backlash 2003, Goldberg was actually booed by half the crowd. Although that might have had something to do with the Rock being so charismatic and entertaining in his role as the villain.
Putting that odd dynamic aside though, we still got to see all the trademark power spots that we’d come to expect from Goldberg, including three separate Spears and an impressive one-armed Jackhammer which would eventually result in him securing the win.
It was a cool scene to see Goldberg finally in a WWE ring, and especially against a top star like the Rock, but that novelty alone wasn’t enough to make this one a classic contest.
