Slightly better than that Four-way Elimination bout was the Triple Threat that we saw at Backlash two years’ prior.

Here, WWE Champion John Cena and Triple H—fresh off their meeting at WrestleMania 22—were joined by Edge in the three-way, although you wouldn’t have known it from the opening exchanges. Living up to his Ultimate Opportunist moniker, Edge remained outside the ring as Cena and the Game went at it. Although it wasn’t long before they’d turn their attention to their ringside onlooker and welcome him to the contest.

This was another multi-man match that made good use of the stipulation, pulling out a nice spot in which Triple H would lock Edge in a sleeper, only for Cena to storm the ring and hoist both men up for an Attitude Adjustment. Edge, managing to wriggle free though, would then hit the ropes and unleash a Spear to knock both men to the ground.

The finish was also a rather novel one, with Cena winning via a jack-knife cover. Although, baying for revenge, a bloodied Triple H would seize his sledgehammer after the match, taking out Cena, Edge and the referee to make for an emphatic finale to the show.
