Ranking Every WWE Backlash Main Event Ever - From Worst To Best
7. 2008 – Randy Orton Vs. Triple H Vs. John Cena Vs. JBL
Backlash 2008 saw a similarly jam-packed main event, as
Randy Orton defended his WWE Championship in a Four-way Elimination match
against Triple H, John Cena and JBL.
It was naturally a fairly manic affair with all of your classic multi-man spots, including a tower of doom and double pin attempt, plus a cool moment in which JBL refrained from breaking up Cena’s STFU on Orton, goading the latter to tap, only for Triple H to spring up from behind and lock him in the crossface.
Shortly after, JBL and Cena would be eliminated in quick succession. JBL submitted to Cena’s STFU and in the aftermath Orton swooped in with a punt before covering Cena to take him out of contention. That paved the way for what was essentially a singles match between Orton and Triple H, which actually lasted twice as long as the preceding four-man action. Eventually Triple H would score the win, hitting the Pedigree after numerous reversals of one another’s finishers.
This wasn’t quite the best multi-man main event in Backlash history—as we’ll soon see—but it was still a solid showing nonetheless.
