Speaking of which, the Chamber match from New Year’s Revolution 2005 featured one of the most stacked line-ups we’d ever seen—and to top it all off, Shawn Michaels was inserted as the guest referee.

Given the match’s participants, naturally it was the Evolution ties of Triple H, Batista, and Randy Orton that played a key role in the underlying story here.

Triple H was still the group’s leader, though Batista's stock was skyrocketing, and Orton meanwhile had recently spread his wings and was sticking it to his former allies. Fittingly, it was these three who lasted the longest, with Orton bringing Batista’s rampage to an end while Triple H noticeably seemed to avoid making the save. The Game then pounced, eventually escaping with victory, but not before that subtle indication that all wasn’t well within Evolution.

The rest of the cast also had their own moments, too. Jericho and Benoit kicked things off with a predictably stellar exchange, and Edge made headlines when he inadvertently Speared referee Michaels to set up a feud with the Heartbreak Kid.

From top to bottom this was an excellently-assembled Chamber match and easily one of the greatest of its kind.
